Today, I had the opportunity to support and take photos of my son and his fiance as they ran their first 50K. It was the Mountians-to-Sea Trail 50 K challenge. The Bull City Running Company, a local running store, puts on the race. It is a smaller race of about 100 entrants and very well organized.
They woke at 5:00 AM to head to the race while I cared for the dog. When they were at mile 13, I headed to the race site, about 40 minutes away, to hear them along for the second half. I was able to meet them four times before the ned of the race. At the first stop, Kira was in third place. They were averaging about 30 seconds a mile faster on the return on the out and back course, averaging about 10:24 per mile out and well under 10 minutes per mile returning.
They finished with an official time of 5 hours, 29 minutes, and 9 seconds, an average of 10:21 per mile. Kira finished second, and Jordan was in the top 15. It was a great run for both of them!
